I’m Minna Puukko from Finland. My family bought the first dog - a Welsh Springer Spaniel - in 1992 and that was also the beginning of my dog sports hobby. After a while I wanted to have a dog of my own. I read every book of dogs I could find and became fascinated with the elegance of sighthounds. I saw the first Whippets at a sighthound show in 1993 and I immediately knew I wanted to have one. They had the sweetest expressions and it felt like they touched my soul. I got my first Whippet Täysikuun Samba a year later, and I have been entwined into the world of Whippets ever since. This means I have lived 30 years with this amazing breed in 2024. I have done Lure Coursing, Rally Obedience, Agility and of course Dog Shows with my Whippets. Samba was not a star in the show ring, but he had the most wonderful character that made me fell in love with Whippets even more. Unfortunately, he passed away too young due to an autoimmune disease. I got two litter brothers from kennel Desmenda’s in 1998 and my first bitch and a mother of my first litter FI EE Ch Plaudite Night Life Nette in 2000.

In 2002 I travelled to Sweden to mate Nette with SE Ch Hubbestad Red Devil and afterwards the first litter under my prefix Nightvision was born. I got two Finnish Champions from that litter: Nightvision Actual Admiral and Nightvision Astral Romance. Later that year I imported Frontrunner’s Special Attraction from Denmark. She was the mother of my second litter which included FI EE BY CH FIW-07 Nightvision Catchthemiracle and FI EE CH Nightvision Co-Attraction. During the following years I owned and co-owned few other Whippets and bred three litters. Unfortunately, I ended up having some autoimmune disorders, heart diseases and spine anomalies in my breeding program. I no longer found breeding rewarding enough and both my brood bitches moved to live with my parents.

At that time, I only kept my home bred males and focused mostly on my studies. In 2009 I imported Frontrunner’s Top Priority and in 2012 I got Mimi Chill’s Brief is The Light as a stud fee puppy. In 2014 my husband and I moved to North Carolina, and we stayed there for little over two years. While we were there Sami Multi Ch Festiva Snow Hill Imagine joined our family. I proudly handled him to his Am GrCh title. We were happy to be able take him with us when we returned Finland in 2016. Along with Sami we currently share our home with an Australian Terrier and an Estonian Hound. We try to keep the number of dogs in our home reasonable, but there definitely is room for another Whippet in my heart. Hopefully that spot will be filled sooner than later. Sami will be 10 years old in April and I can’t think of a life without a Whippet.

During my free time I love to take photos – of dogs of course. I have been a ring steward in Finland for decades and I also got a permission to steward in USA while I lived there. I have been an active member of the Finnish Whippet Club over the years and received the golden award of merit of the FWC in 2020. I got my FCI judging license in June 2023 and I’m licensed to judge Whippet and Italian Greyhound. I also attended the Judges Education seminar of American Whippet Club at the National Specialty in 2015. My goal is to complete the whole FCI Group 10 in the future and after that start my education towards additional groups.

Thank you for inviting me to judge Whippets at your show. I am honored to judge my own breed in Sweden. I look forward seeing you and your lovely Whippets in April 2024.
